Elmer Chalcraft oral history interview

This is an oral history interview with Holocaust concentration camp liberator Elmer Chalcraft. Chalcraft was a member of the 63rd Infantry Division, which liberated Kaufering, a sub-camp of Dachau, on April 29, 1945. While proceeding on the Central Europe Campaign, the division encountered a group of German prisoners who had surrendered to the British. Shortly afterwards, they continued down the road and found the camp. According to Chalcraft, he and his comrades were there only a short time before other American soldiers, possibly from the 36th Infantry Division, told them to leave.
