Purpose of review: Despite significant advances in knowledge regarding the biological and clinical issues related to aging with HIV, significantly less research has centered on related psychological, behavioral, and social issues, which are increasingly recognized as important for successfully aging with HIV. Recent findings: Barriers to successful aging include physical challenges from a sociobehavioral perspective, psychosocial challenges, and system-level challenges. In contrast, several resiliencies and interventions that help facilitate healthy aging with HIV are also emerging.
