Summarization: This article presents a methodology to transform a traditional home to a smart home. Along these lines, two observations are highlighted: first, that there is an obvious need for new concepts of “enhanced architectural design” that are driven by, and appropriate for, smart homes; and second, that it is fundamental to reconsider the role of user motivation to bridge the gap between the functionalities offered by smart services and user’s needs.
