The use of didactic resources in the Science teaching and learning of visually impaired students

The widespread use of visual references is a characteristic of the teaching of Natural Sciences. Therefore, studies on the use of educational resources for blind students are needed. The objective of this paper is to analyze how the science teaching regarding the use of educational resources for blind students are occurring in public schools in Sergipe, Northeast Brazil. Thus, we conducted semistructured interviews with three blind students of elementary school and their science teachers. The difficulties mentioned by the teachers focus primarily on the need of the use of visual references, and in the fact that they do not consider the didactic resources used by them adequate. All teachers stated that they need specific training, for none of them had the opportunity to learn on school inclusion. As suggestions for improving their learning in science, students cited the use of figures in relief and Braille, which denotes a certain lack of use of specific or appropriate resources. Another obvious problem was the absence, in their schools, of a Specialized Care Service and education professionals working in special education, so they can support the students and the teachers, factor for an effective educational inclusion.A ampla utilização de referências visuais é uma característica do ensino de Ciências Naturais. Assim, são necessários estudos sobre a utilização de recursos didáticos no ensino de ciências para alunos cegos. O objetivo deste trabalho é analisar como está se processando o ensino de ciências quanto à utilização de recursos didáticos para alunos cegos em escolas da rede pública de ensino em Sergipe. Para tanto, foram realizadas entrevistas semiestruturadas com três alunos cegos do Ensino Fundamental e seus professores da disciplina Ciências. As dificuldades apontadas por estes concentram-se, basicamente, na necessidade de utilização de referências visuais e no fato de que os recursos didáticos utilizados pelas professoras não são considerados adequados por elas. Todas afirmaram que sentem necessidade de formação específica, pois contam que não tiveram oportunidade de acesso a conhecimentos sobre inclusão escolar. Como sugestões para melhorar o seu aprendizado em ciências, os alunos citaram a utilização de figuras em relevo e em Braille, o que denota certa carência da utilização de recursos específicos ou apropriados.
