The Policy of indexation in university libraries: a comparative study between the Central Library of the Federal University of Sergipe and the Biblioteca Uchôa de Mendonça of the Tiradentes University

The present work of conclusion of course presents a reflection about the adoption or not of indexing policy in university libraries. In this way, the research developed on the topic of indexation policy was carried out in the central library of the Federal University of Sergipe and in the library Jacinto de Mendonça Uchôa, of the Tiradentes University, well-known information units, among the largest institutions of higher education present in the State of Sergipe, Brazil. Thus, this research aimed to identify the main aspects involved in the indexing process carried out by these information units, identifying whether these institutions had their own policy or any other document as the basis for the realization of the indexing activity. It was intended still to evaluate if the aspects adopted for the development of the indexing activity would be consistent with the recommendations described as necessary for the execution of the process as described in the literature of the area. Therefore, was chosen a descriptive and exploratory research to analyze the said university libraries. About the technical procedures adopted, was performed a bibliographic characteristic research, followed by a survey of information through a data collection developed through a questionnaire applied to responsible for the technical processing of each library is referenced. The Acquired responses were analyzed and interpreted, pointing out that the institutions surveyed do not have a policy of its own, but use other means to develop the indexing process, such as the observation of policies of other institutions such as the national library. Finally, it was examined, although the elements/ described aspects as necessary by the literature of the area, for the realization of the activity of indexing, are not fully used in the libraries of the examined instituitions. It was thus perceived that the concern with the subject of indexing, should be more valued by the institutions, especially as regards to the development of an indexing policy own for the specifics of each institution, taking into account the characteristics and needs of its users.O presente Trabalho de Conclusão de Curso apresenta uma reflexão sobre a adoção ou não de política de indexação em bibliotecas universitárias. Deste modo, a pesquisa desenvolvida sobre a temática da política de indexação foi realizada na Biblioteca central da Universidade Federal de Sergipe e na Biblioteca Jacinto Uchoa de Mendonça da Universidade Tiradentes, unidades de informação bem conceituadas dentre as maiores instituições de ensino superior presentes no estado de Sergipe, Brasil. Assim, esta pesquisa procurou identificar os principais aspectos envolvidos no processo de indexação realizados por essas unidades de informação, identificando se essas instituições possuíam uma política própria, ou qualquer outro documento como base para a realização da atividade de indexação. Almejou-se, ainda, avaliar se os aspectos adotados para o desenvolvimento da atividade de indexação seriam coerentes com as recomendações descritas como necessárias para a execução do processo conforme a descrição da literatura da área. Assim sendo, optou-se pela realização de uma pesquisa descritiva e exploratória, para analisar as referidas bibliotecas universitárias. Em relação aos procedimentos técnicos adotados, realizou-se uma pesquisa de característica bibliográfica, seguida de levantamento de informações, através de uma coleta de dados desenvolvida por meio de questionário aplicado ao responsável pelo processamento técnico de cada biblioteca mencionada. As respostas adquiridas foram analisadas e interpretadas, apontando que as instituições pesquisadas não possuem uma política própria, porém utilizam outros meios para desenvolver o processo de indexação, tais como a observação de políticas de outras instituições como a Biblioteca Nacional. Por fim, foi averiguado ainda que, os elementos/aspectos descritos como necessários pela literatura da área, para a realização da atividade de indexação, não são inteiramente usados nas bibliotecas das instituições analisadas. Percebeu-se assim que a preocupação com a temática da indexação, deve ser mais valorizada pelas Instituições, especialmente no que se refere ao desenvolvimento de uma política de indexação própria para as especificidades de cada instituição, tendo em vista as características e necessidades de seus usuários.São Cristóvão, S
