Analysis of muscle strength, morbidity, quality of life and percorrected distance in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease

Objective: Analyze muscle force, morbidity, quality of life and distance in patients with COPD. Methods: 58 volunteers were assessed, COPD ranked 29 in GOLD II (Group 1) and 29 healthy individuals (Group 2), with the following parameters measured: pulmonary function; anthro-pometric variables; muscle strength; morbidity by Body mass index index, air way Obstruction, Dyspnea, and Exercise capacity (BODE); quality of life with the questionnaire of the St. George's Respiratory Questionnaire (SGRQ); functional capacity through the distance walked in the six-minute walk test For statistical analysis, conducted the test of Shapiro Wilk and the Mann-Whitney test or Student's t-test, as well as the Pearson correlation test, for values of p res < 0.05. Results: the mean age was 61 ± 7 years, smaller values of strength, especially of knee extensors 110.61 ± 41.69; in respect of upper limb muscle strength, the strength of elbow flexors with 96.34 ± 26.15 compared to the control group. In the distance of the TC6M 1 group traveled an average of 274 ± 107.86 and the Group 2 384.98 ± 100.47 (p < 0.05). The goat presented correlation (r =-0.79) with the distance walked in the TC6M and (r = 0.72) with Saint George. Conclusions: patients with COPD reduced muscle strength of upper limbs to com-stop with the control group, as for lower limbs not significant difference was observed compared with muscle strength predicted captivates. As for morbidity and quality of life showed moderate risk and 29% deficit for distance travelled.Objetivo: Analisar a força muscular, morbidade, qualidade de vida e distância percorrida em pacientes com DPOC. Métodos: Foram avaliados 58 voluntários, 29 DPOC classificados em GOLD II (grupo 1) e 29 indivíduos saudáveis (grupo 2), com os seguintes parâmetros mensu-rados: função pulmonar; variáveis antropométricas; força muscular; morbidade mediante o ín-dice Body mass index, airway Obstruction, Dyspnea, and Exercise capacity (BODE); qualidade de vida com o questionário do Saint George's Respiratory Questionnaire (SGRQ); capacidade funcional através da distância percorrida no teste de caminhada de seis minutos. Para análise estatística, realizado o teste de Shapiro Wilk e os testes de Mann-Whitney ou t de Student, assim como o teste de correlação de Pearson, para valores de p < 0,05. Resultados: A idade média foi de 61±7 anos, valores menores de força, principalmente de extensores de joelho 110,61±41,69; em relação a força muscular de membros superiores, destaca-se a força de flexores de cotovelo com 96,34±26,15 em comparação ao grupo controle.
