Introduction: The introduction of Rotarix® in immunization programs in Brazil occurred in March 2006. In this study, we evaluated the effect of the vaccine on the severity of diarrhea in children in the period between january 2007 and december 2012. Methods: Children under 12 admitted with the diagnosis of acute diarrhea in the Hospital de Urgência de Sergipe were chosen for the study. A questionnaire was developed for the research through which it was possible to assess the severity of diarrhea. Stool samples of these children were analyzed for the presence of rotavirus.
