The Modern Trait: A Study of the Reception of the Catholic Church to Modernism

This article aims to synthesize the evolution of the modernist movement in architecture from the 1930 Revolution to the 1970s, as well as to make a reflection in the form of a case study of the church of Santa Luzia, located in the town of Colônia Treze, a city of Lizard / SE. Thus, we will try to understand how the Catholic Church absorbed the modernist style and in what perspective it relates to art and artists. Before entering the theme itself, we will make a brief comment on the origin and evolution of modernism in the world, especially in Brazil.O presente artigo tem por objetivo sintetizar a evolução do movimento modernista na arquitetura desde a Revolução de 1930 até a década de 1970, bem como fazer uma reflexão sob a forma de estudo de caso da igreja de Santa Luzia, localizada no povoado Colônia Treze, cidade de Lagarto/SE. Assim, procuraremos entender como a igreja católica absorveu o estilo modernista e em que perspectiva se relaciona com a arte e os artistas.
