This is a field lab in which students observe and document glacial striae in Central Park, New York City. It was designed for use by undergraduate non-science majors in the context of a unit on glacial/interglacial cycles and climate change. The objects of the field lab are to find locations using maps, and orientations using a compass, become familiar with the kinds of observations and logical deductions geologists can make on rock outcrops to determine their geological history and to look for signs of past glaciations and determine the direction of ice movement.
