This site examines the role of geoscience departments and faculty in preparing preservice teachers and supporting practicing teachers who teach K-12 Earth science. Information is drawn from the participants and outcomes of a 2003 workshop, 'Developing the Earth Science Teacher Workforce: The Role of Geoscience Departments and Introductory Courses'. Topics include issues involved in preparing teachers to teach Earth science; ways in which colleges and universities prepare future K-12 teachers of Earth science; and ways in which geoscience faculty and departments support practicing teachers (most of whom have a major in a non-geosciences area) as they expand their knowledge of Earth Science and keep up in a changing field.
