The development of electronic systems' CAD has been tremendous since its birth twenty years ago. Presently, chips cannot be designed without the help of CAD. CAD has to be analyzed according to three view-points: those of industry, for which it is a source of quality and productivity; of research which works on tools of the next generation; and those of education which trains the future users. The paper deals with the trends of the three aspects of the electronic systems' CAD
