This dissertation examines turbulent thermal convection in various Rayleigh-Bénard cells, using gaseous and liquid helium. One of the specificities of this work is a cryogenics implementation, in order to benefit from an optimal experimental environment in terms of thermal control as well as in terms of range of variation of the control parameters : the Prandtl and Rayleigh numbers. Particularly, the latest is explored over more than 11 decades. Three main contributions emerge from this study. Firstly, we evidence a meaningful effect of side wall conduction.
