Numerical simulation applications requiring the resolution of Partial Differential Equation (PDE) problems are often parallelized using domain decomposition methods. These mathematical methods are well adapted to parallel computing, however their effective exploitation on parallel machines becomes difficult when the applications have an irregular behavior. This is the case for example when the mathematical problems are solved over complex geometries or when one uses mesh refinement techniques. A programming technique that is useful to cope with irregular parallel applications is multithreading.
