This thesis proposes a novel approach for computer vision, insisting on the role played by the information and the knowledge present in a computer vision system. The knowledge can be seen as a goal to be achieved by the methods involved, or as an instrument used for guiding these methods. This double role played by the knowledge is stressed by putting forward the necessary management of all available information at all time to achieve the recognition task. A distributed approach is proposed, using a multi-agent system, where an agent is specialized in the recognition of a particular concept of the image.
