The goal of our work is the conception and implementation of a segmentation system for Magnetic Resonance Images of the brain. The aim is to combine complementary approaches in response to the complexity of the problem. Given the diversity of the approaches existing for segmentation (classification, deformable models,...) we demonstrate that it is possible to define a common framework to allow cooperation between heterogeneous approaches. The methodological framework we have defined is based on learning and adaptability. Learning allows for the introduction of a priori explicit knowledge about the context under the form of a statistical deformable model of the brain boundary.
