The research in mathematics education we present here, deals with the teacher's interventions in the student's mathematical activity. The theoretical frame is given by the theory of didactical situations. To begin with, we propose a theoretical elaboration allowing the modelization of certain teacher's interventions. On one hand, we used the concept of scaffolding to characterize the teacher's interventions in the student-milieu relationship which preserve the meaning of the student's activity. We show how scaffolding is a part of a negotiation about the mathematical meaning of the student-milieu interaction, negotiation which can lead to the Topaze effect.
