Qualidade de sono em pacientes com fibromialgia

Introduction: Fibromyalgia is characterized as a chronic disease in which the main characteristic is generalized musculoskeletal pain, associated with painful points with anatomically precise locations when subject to palpation. In normal situations these stimuli would not cause pain. Predominantly the female gender is the most affected and is often associated with symptoms such as fatigue, cognitive difficulties, mood disorders, headache, gastrointestinal disorders and sleep disorders. The relationship between sleep and pain, a primordial symptom of fibromyalgia, is consistent, with sleep disturbances being very common, suggesting that these have a high relevance in the aggravation of the symptomatology. Objective: Assessment of the relationship between sleep quality and fibromyalgia symptoms through questionnaires. Methods: An analytical, observational and cross-section study with a non-probabilistic sample performed in 38 individuals. The study implies the self-completion of surveys, namely General Information, Visual Analogue Scale of Pain Intensity, Fibromyalgia Impact Questionnaire, Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index and SF-12 Quality of Life Questionnaire. The statistical analysis was performed using the SPSS® program (Statistic Product and Service Solution). Results: It was verified that the PSQI global and SF-12 variables had a weak negative correlation marginally significant (p=0.072), and a statistically significant positive correlation between depression and anxiety (p<0.001). The remaining variables did not present any associations. Conclusion: The symptoms of fibromyalgia are related to sleep disorders, so these patients should perform a subjective and objective sleep evaluation. Likewise, a multidisciplinary intervention should be encouraged in order to enhance the quality of life of these patients, improving and adapting their clinical follow-up and adopting approaches that are not only pharmacological.Introdução: A fibromialgia é caracterizada como uma doença crónica na qual a principal característica é a dor músculo-esquelética generalizada, associada a pontos dolorosos com localizações anatomicamente precisas quando sujeitas a palpação. Em situações normais estes estímulos não provocariam dor. Predominantemente o género feminino é o mais afetado e frequentemente está associada a sintomas como fadiga, dificuldades cognitivas, perturbações de humor, cefaleias, alterações gastrointestinais e a distúrbios do sono. A relação sono e dor, sintoma primordial da fibromialgia é consistente, sendo os distúrbios do sono muito comuns sugerindo que estes têm uma elevada relevância no agravamento da sintomatologia. Objetivo: Avaliação através de questionários a relação entre qualidade de sono e sintomatologia da fibromialgia. Métodos: Estudo analítico, observacional e transversal, com uma amostra do tipo não probabilístico, realizado em 38 indivíduos. O estudo implicou o autopreenchimento de inquéritos nomeadamente Informação Geral, Escala Visual Analógica da Intensidade da Dor, Questionário Impacto da Fibromialgia, Índice Qualidade de Sono de Pittsburgh e Questionário qualidade de vida SF-12. A análise estatística foi executada com recurso ao programa SPSS® (Statistic Product and Service Solution). Resultados: Verificou-se que as variáveis PSQI global e SF-12 apresentaram uma correlação negativa fraca com significância marginalmente significativa (p=0,072) e uma correlação positiva moderada estatisticamente significativa foi verificada entre a depressão e ansiedade (p<0,001). As restantes variáveis não apresentaram quaisquer associações. Conclusão: A sintomatologia da fibromialgia está relacionada com os distúrbios do sono, devendo estes pacientes realizar uma avaliação do sono tanto subjetiva como objetiva. Da mesma forma, deve ser incentivada uma intervenção multidisciplinar de maneira a potenciar o aumento da qualidade de vida destes pacientes, melhorando e adaptando o seu acompanhamento clínico e adotando abordagens não apenas farmacológicas.
