Supernova explosions are considered to be galactic sources, which accelerate these particles up to energies around 10^18 eV. Beyond this energy, one supposes that the extragalactic sources, like active galaxy nuclei (AGN), gamma ray bursts or pulsars, are the origin of the ultra high energy cosmic rays.
