A Study of the Current and Ongoing Search for Biosignatures of Extraterrestrial Life in the Universe

The current search for extraterrestrial life hinges on the detection of biosignatures, which are any potential marker found that might indicate the presence of biological processes of life. In this paper the general inhospitable environment of space is discussed first. Then, despite these inhospitable conditions, it is shown that scientist still conduct an active search for life in the cosmos. First the criteria for the development of life are discussed. Then the generalized biosignatures which may be produced by this life are characterized. Next specific research is addressed which is attempting to discover these biosignatures in deep space and within our own solar system. Finally, we look forward to the future to show some of the upcoming technological advancements in telescopic technology, which will further the boundaries of what is possible in the current and ongoing search for extraterrestrial life. In the conclusion the findings are reiterated, and final thoughts are discussed
