This spring, I combined my work at the Hearst Center for the Arts with my psychological studies to create a cooperative learning internship aimed at deepening my understanding of both art instruction and childhood creative development. Rather than teaching lessons step-by-step, I focused on a child-centered learning approach to cultivate a more imaginative environment. This approach encourages art exploration without rules and guidelines. However, I provided some instructions on using materials to allow for optimal artistic flourishing. Ultimately, child-centered learning allows children to lead themselves in their artmaking in a way that has lasting effects on their confidence and creativity
