Insulin resistance (IR) is a key defect in the development of many metabolic complications, such as Metabolic Syndrome and type 2 diabetes. Assessment of IR is of great clinical interest. There are no accurate and convenient procedure for insulin resistance measurement available in clinical practice. [123I]6-deoxy-6-iodo-D-glucose (6DIG) has been developed as a new tracer of glucose transport. An experimental protocol and a compartmental model were developed to study 6DIG transport in myocardium, and provide a cardiac IR index.
