This thesis focuses on data servers performance on multicore architectures. We study two different aspects of this problematic. First, we benchmark an event-driven multicore runtime. We especially show that the workstealing mechanism used for load balancing may sometimes degrade the performance of data servers. Consequently, we introduce a new runtime and new heuristics to improve the workstealing behavior. Second, we study the performance of the Apache Web server, which uses both threads and processes, on a NUMA architecture. We show that this Web server does not perfectly scale under a realistic workload.
