Lumbar Disc Herniation and Treatment Guidelines - CME

Lumbar disc herniation is a prevalent pathology of low back pain worldwide affecting up to 10% of the population and up to 5% symptomatically. There have been recent advances in the surgical management of lumbar disc herniation that allow for rapid relief of symptoms. Low back pain is a complaint that will face primary care providers initially and it is important that Physician assistants can effectively manage lumbar disc herniation with patients and educate patients on their surgical options. Surgical options range from noninvasive, minimally invasive, to more complex procedures. Understanding the prognosis and outcomes of procedure types for patients can provide better quality of life for patients and more effective symptom relief
