The approach towards deafness with regard to the right to diversity, which is symbolised by the officially recognised use of sign languages - Langue des Signes Française (French Sign Language), or LSF in the case of France - raises high stakes for deaf signers, a minority linguistic community. The members of this community communicate by means of a visuospatial gestural language, whilst living in a predominantly hearing society.
