Background: Delirium, a disturbance of attention awareness and a change in baseline cognition, is frequently underrecognized in the emergency department (ED), especially when patients' presentation may be subtle or atypical (Shenvi et al., 2020). Delirium is often missed in the ED because the emergency staff is only 35% sensitive to detecting delirium, thus not being able to pick it up, yet the most compelling research questions to overcome knowledge-to-practice deficits remain undefined (Carpenter et al., 2021).
