Assement of psychosocial factors os brazilian dentists facing the risk of Sars-CoV-2 infection, in the public and private sectors

A contaminação causada pelo vírus SARS-CoV-2, coloca o cirurgião-dentista, no topo do risco de infecção. Entretanto, os profissionais necessitam continuar realizando o trabalho odontológico, sendo expostos aos riscos diretos de contaminação. Dessa forma, o presente estudo teve como objetivo primário investigar, por meio de um estudo transversal, as percepções dos profissionais de Odontologia que atuam nos setores público e privado, quanto ao medo e à ansiedade no atendimento de pacientes e o risco de infecção no contexto da pandemia de COVID-19. Como objetivo secundário, avaliar se os fatores relacionados à profissão, influenciaram nessa relação. Adotaram-se perguntas relacionadas ao stress profissional, acrescido de questões sociodemográficas. As percepções frente à pandemia foram avaliadas por meio de perguntas, montadas com base na consulta da literatura prévia. Os dados estiveram sob avaliações do software STATA 14. As análises não ajustadas forneceram associações preliminares entre o preditor e o desfecho. As variáveis com p 0,20, foram incluídas na análise ajustada. Dentre os profissionais avaliados, 244 (80.8%) suspenderam as atividades por algum tempo, 226 (74.8%) tinham medo de se contaminar durante o trabalho, 260 (86.1%) tinham medo de transmitir o vírus a seus familiares, 91 (30.1%) já haviam sido contaminados, 163 (54%) sentiam medo quando ouviam notícias de morte ocasionadas pelo SARS-CoV-2 e 193 (63.9%) relataram ter os conhecimentos protetivos necessários à não contaminação. Cirurgiões-dentistas que atuam no setor público e, aqueles que trabalham em ambos os tipos de setores, tiveram maior medo de se infectar pela Covid-19, quando comparados com os profissionais que atuavam apenas em consultórios particulares (OR 2,46; IC95% 1,02-5,45) e (3,81; IC 1,59- 9,16). Os achados do presente estudo, evidenciam que houve impacto da pandemia de COVID-19 na saúde emocional e em cirurgiões-dentistas, especialmente, devido ao medo da contaminação e da morte.Contamination caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus, puts the dental surgeon at the top of the infection risk. However, professionals need to continue performing their dental work even being exposed at direct infection risks. Thus, the primary objective of this study was to investigate, through a cross-sectional study, the dental professionals perceptions, working at the public and private sectors, regarding fear and anxiety in patient care and the risk of infection in the context of the pandemic of COVID-19. The secondary objective, was to evaluate if factors related to the occupation influenced this relationship. The quiz with questions related to professional stress, as well as sociodemographic questions, was adopted. Perceptions of the pandemic were assessed by means of questions, assembled based on previous literature consultation. Data were analyzed using STATA 14 software. Unadjusted analyses, provided preliminary associations between predictor and outcome. Variables with p 0.20 were included in the adjusted analysis. Among the professionals evaluated, 244 (80.8%) suspended their activities for some time, 226 (74.8%) were afraid of getting contaminated during their work, 260 (86.1%) were afraid of transmitting the virus to their families, 91 (30.1%) had already been infected, 163 (54%) were afraid when they heard about death news caused by SARS-CoV-2, and 193 (63.9%) reported having the necessary protective knowledge against infection. Dental surgeons that work in the public sector and those that work in both types of service had greater fear of becoming infected with Covid-19 when compared to professionals who work only in private practice (OR 2.46; 95% CI 1.025.45) and (3.81; CI 1.59- 9.16). The findings of the present study highlight that there was an impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on emotional health in dental surgeons, especially due to fear of contamination and death
