Resection of the mandibular body and its effect on mandibular growth

One is the surgical correction of the involved segment. For example, mandibular prognathism is often treated by surgical reduction of the mandible (3,99,205). Generally, there are particular requirements that pertain to surgery. Conventionally, growth should be completed. One reason is that the surgery may interfere with subsequent growth. Since the effect of surgery is not totally understood, the surgical result may not be predictable because the growth variable is not clear. On the other hand, some suggest that surgery can successfully be performed at an early age (18,61,164,178). At present there does not appear to be a unified point of view. [TRUNCATED
