Creating library space for learning and growth: Developing professional development workshops and sessions for librarians [slides]

[Slides from a presentation given October 18, 2019 at the North Carolina Library Association Biennial Conference in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.] Librarians need space to grow, and being able to attend professional development sessions on a variety of topics presents learning and networking opportunities. Technology is constantly changing, and professional development opportunities on new instructional technology and design tools and strategies can help librarians keep up with this change. Unfortunately, professional development can be costly and time-consuming, with librarians spending money for travel and event registration and taking time off of daily job duties to attend. So how can librarians improve themselves and grow their careers, while also balancing their job duties and not breaking the bank? This panel will focus on creating internal professional development sessions, with librarians training other librarians, patrons, and even future librarians. The panelists will discuss setting up monthly in-person instructional technology trainings for librarians, weekly trainings for library science students on topics of librarianship, and creating virtual professional development for university faculty and staff. This will be an interactive panel, with time for polling, conversations, and reflection
