[PREFACE] In attempting a discussion of Jesus’ testimony to Jesus’ self-consciousness, I have taken Q (Quelle,”source" ) as the textual basis for the discussion, and I have followed it as constructed by Harnack (The Sayings of Jesus). Q is possibly the oldest manuscript that has been found purporting to give the words of our Lord. It dates from the apostolic epoch and, in point of value, takes precedence over lark in the picture it gives us of the character of the Christ. This is the non-Markan source from which Matthew and Luke seem to have obtained much of their gospel material
