This analysis examines the life and actions of the seventeenth-century Irish man, William Lamport, known in the Spanish-speaking world as Guillen de Lampart. In this thesis, William Lamport, influenced by the literary and intellectual trends of his time, stylized himself as an intellectual picaro in both writing and action. This thesis utilizes a multidisciplinary approach in both history and literature to explore how Guillen absorbed cultural and literary narratives regarding the picaro and the rogue and how he reflected such narratives in his behavior, writing, and speech.
