In this paper I am attempting to describe how art therapy can be an important part air the recovery process for patients hospitalized in an acute care psychiatric facility, where the treatment philosophy is-based on the concept of milieu therapy. In order to illustrate the use of art therapy in such a setting, I include some case histories of patients I have worked with at the Good Samaritan Hospital in San Jose, during the second half of my internship as an art therapy graduate student at the College of Notre Dame
