The emancipatory potential of the work of art in Walter Benjamin

This article intends to investigate how the work of art, especially the technically produced work, can contribute to social emancipation, in view of Walter Benjamin's conceptions of aesthetics and politics. For this, we intend to analyze how the decline of the aura opens space, at the same time, for an art freed from its ritualistic use and aligned with the interests of the Nazi regime. We will try to understand the author's path and positioning within aesthetics to, finally, understand how the loss of aura opens space for an aestheticization of politics and, at the same time, for a politicized art capable of contributing to social emancipation. For this, the texts “Little History of Photography” (1931) and “The work of art in the era of its technical reproducibility” (1936) by Benjamin will be used as main references, as well as other texts by the same author and by Benjamin. commentators.Trabalho de Conclusão de Curso (Graduação)Este artigo pretende investigar como a obra de arte, especialmente a obra tecnicamente produzida, pode contribuir para a emancipação social, tendo em vista as concepções de Walter Benjamin sobre estética e política. Para isso, pretende-se analisar como o declínio da aura abre espaço, ao mesmo tempo, para uma arte liberta de seu uso ritualístico e alinhada aos interesses do regime nazista. Tentaremos compreender o percurso e o posicionamento do autor dentro da estética para, enfim, entender de que maneira a perda da aura abre espaço para uma estetização da política e, ao mesmo tempo, para uma arte politizada capaz de contribuir para a emancipação social. Para isto, utilizar-se-á como referências principais os textos “Pequena História da Fotografia” (1931) e “A obra de arte na era de sua reprodutibilidade técnica” (1936) de Benjamin, assim como outros textos do mesmo autor e de comentadores
