Presented to British Sociological Association (BSA) annual conference 2010We would like to show how inequalities at school in terms of success rate may entail significant social injustices concerning the access to a career in engineering. We have carried out research in two major engineering schools, in the Rhône-Alpes region in France, that each recruit more than a thousand students per year. These are the National Institute of Applied Sciences in Lyon (INSA) and the various schools composing the Grenoble National Polytechnic Institute (GINP).
