L'histoire de l'enseignement supérieur français. Pour une approche globale

International audienceSince the 1970s, the contemporary period of the history of French higher education has been the subject of major French and foreign studies but has yet to benefi t from anywhere near as much research as the other levels of education. This article presents a critical panorama of research in this fi eld and proposes a typology by period for the contexts of production and the dominant thematics as well as considering the causes of this lesser interest. The presentation of current trends in research enables the author to suggest orientations in the areas which should be pursued in the coming years and lead her to advocate a global approach to the issue.L'histoire de l'enseignement supérieur français à l'époque contemporaine a été l'objet, depuis les années 1970, d'importants travaux français et étrangers, mais elle est encore loin de susciter autant l'intérêt que les autres ordres d'enseignement. Cet article présente un panorama critique de la recherche en ce domaine et propose une périodisation des contextes de production et des thématiques dominantes, tout en réfléchissant aux causes de ce moindre intérêt. La présentation des chantiers en cours permet de suggérer des orientations pour les années qui viennent et conduit à prôner une approche globale de la question
