International audienceThe city of Quito has been under threat since October 1988, when the Guagua Pichincha volcano reached a new phase of reactivation. 011 September 27 1999, the orange warning level was enforced, prior to an explosion that blanketed the capital town with a thin layer of ashes on October 5. Both facts, which may appear as rather minor ones, lead to numerous disruptions of the urban system.
