Als een cel deelt moet zij alle chromosomen in tweeën delen. Als dit fout gaat zijn cellen chromosomaal instabiel (CIN). CIN leidt tot aneuploidy, een staat waarin cellen extra of missende chromosomen hebben. CIN komt vaak voor in kankers; drie van de vier kankers zijn aneuploid terwijl gezonde cellen haast nooit aneuploid zijn. In deze thesis laten wij zien dat er drugs zijn die specifieke vormen van CIN doden. Dit zou kunnen leiden tot een therapie voor specifieke vormen van CIN kanker. In deze thesis ontwerpen wij ook een nieuw muis model waarin wij DNA segregatie kunnen bekijken binnen levende muis weefsels en kankers. Tenslotte laten wij zien dat CIN hele andere effecten op verschillende weefsels heeft. CIN is getolereerd in borstweefs...
