Natuurkundige modellen van fotosynthese Moleculaire J-aggregaten zijn zelf-geassembleerde structuren die soms wel uit duizenden moleculen kunnen bestaan. Zulke aggregaten zijn aanwezig in de natuurlijke fotosynthetische systemen van planten en bacteriën, waar ze een belangrijke rol spelen in de opvang van het zonlicht en het transport van deze energie. De excitaties in deze systemen worden gedeeld door vele moleculen, dankzij de sterke interacties tussen de moleculen. Dit resulteert in een collectieve optische respons van het aggregaat. Met behulp van theoretische modellen hebben we het collectieve gedrag van de excitaties in aggregaten van verschillende geometrie bestudeerd en het effect hiervan op de optische eigenschappen.
