High Resolution Transmission Electron Microscope (HRTEM) images of an interface between MgO and Cu in an internally oxidised alloy show a characteristic modulation of intensity near the interface. An atomic structure is proposed for the interface taking into account the interplay between misfit and bond strength.</p
