Objective: The bio-incompatibility of the cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) circuit and the use of artificial colloids trigger massive defense reaction that involves endothelial cells and several blood cells: platelets, neutrophils, monocytes, red blood cells (RBC) and lymphocytes.
