This thesis describes the synthesis and properties of photorefractive polymers. Photorefractive polymers are materials in which the refractive index can be varied by the interaction with light. Unlike in numerous other photosensitive materials, in photorefractive materials this occurs via photogeneration,transport and trapping of charges and an electro-optic response, which results in an erasable refractive index modulation.
