Breast cancer is the most frequent female cancer in Europe and North America and poses an important health care problem. Over the last decades extensive literature has been compiled on the effectiveness of various diagnostic and treatment strategies, which has resulted in broad consensus on the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment strategies, laid down in clinical guidelines.
