We aimed to evaluate the association between self-rated health (SRH) and the risk of incident type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2D). This cohort study consisted of 250,805 Korean men and women without T2D at baseline. SRH was assessed at baseline with a self-administered structured questionnaire. Incident T2D was defined as fasting serum glucose >= 126 mg/dL, HbA1C >= 6.5%, or use of medication for T2D during follow-up.
