OBJECTIVE: To describe the results of the lung transplantation programme in Groningen in relation to the bronchiolitis obliterans syndrome (BOS), in the first 118 consecutive patients.DESIGN: Retrospective.METHOD: Data were collected on the 118 patients subjected to lung transplantation in November 1990 to June 1998 in the University Hospital Groningen, the Netherlands, regarding the prevalence of chronic transplant dysfunction (BOS) and survival.RESULTS: 117 lung transplantations (95 bilateral lung transplantations including 2 retransplants, and 22 single lung transplantations) and 1 heart-lung transplantation had been performed.
