The hypothesis that high-velocity clouds (HVCs) are Local Group satellites at typical distances of a few hundred kpc to 1.5 Mpc, and with HI masses similar to 10(7) M-circle dot is highly inconsistent with (1) the results from blind Hi surveys, (2) targeted surveys for intra-group HI clouds, and (8) QSO absorption line statistics.</p
