Bols communs et contenus gras : analyses des résidus lipidiques dans les céramiques du site de la nécropole de Cöeby, Trédion (Morbihan): Un dernier repas avant le départ, une offrande pour la traversée, ou pour apaiser l’esprit qu’on a dérangé ?

International audienceThe Coëby necropolis site has been known at least since 1986 and has been the subject of systematic inventories. Since 2010, it has been the object of surveys and programmed excavations led by Philippe Gouézin (Gouézin, 2011, 2013, 2016, 2018, 2019). In 2020, the attention was focused on a cairn (TRED 8) where the sepulchral area could have been used as a votive place, notably because of the erection of an anthropomorphic stele under which two ceramics of the Middle Neolithic II type were found in place. The vases may have been used as serving ware and left as an offering at the base of the stele (Gouézin, 2020).In order to answer questions related to funerary cults, an analysis of the lipids contained in the ceramics was initiated. The two ceramics, the sediments inside them, and three other potsherds from the excavation of another building (TRED 2) to compare the conservation on the site were sampled. The control samples show poor preservation outside of the enclosed context with no contamination from the bedrock. However, the two vessels found under the stele were exceptionally stable and yielded very well-preserved lipids content on the inner surface, one of which was bearing animal fat, subcutaneous or dairy products, and the other was composed of a mixture of the same kind of fat and beeswax. The votive purpose of these ceramics and their contents is now being questioned in relation to the biomolecular archaeology data currently being studied and published on the Atlantic Coast and in Europe for the Neolithic.La nécropole de Coëby, sur la commune de Trédion est connue depuis au moins 1986 et témoigne d’une longue occupation funéraire du territoire. Les fouilles menées en 2020 et 2021 sur le cairn TRED8 ont permis de mettre en évidence une structure d’élévation pluri-phasée installée durant le Néolithique moyen et réinvestie plus tardivement au moins durant l’âge du Bronze. Les études architecturales démontrent que la chambre unique et principale du monument était fermée par a minima 3 systèmes de fermeture ayant probablement été construits dans un laps de temps assez restreint, mais non consécutivement. À l’intérieur de la chambre, une stèle anthropomorphe autrefois de chant a été retrouvée brisée en deux avec un morceau à plat ayant protégé opportunément 2 bols céramiques (C16:0 ; C17:0 ramifié ; cholestérol) et des esters palmitiques associés à la cire d’abeille (esters E40-E48, maj. E42). Le second vase possède les indices d’un mélange d’un même type de graisse animale (ruminant éventuel) et de quelques marqueurs en quantité trace d’origine végétale (β-sitosterol, stérols dégradés, fructose non identifié, et acides gras à longues chaînes paires et impaires). Les 2 bols possèdent des marqueurs de modifications thermiques qui questionnent le primo emplois des vases (gammalactones : γ14-γ18).
