Evolution of radiotherapy techniques, in particular with the advent of stereotactic treatments, led to an increased use of small radiation beams allowing a better dose conformation to the volume while sparing the surrounding normal tissues. As a consequence, clinical conditions are significantly different from the reference conditions in terms of absorbed dose in water at a point, as described in international protocols. The loss of traceability thus observed leads to an increased uncertainty of the dose delivered to the patient. In order to overcome the difficulties of absorbed dose traceability in small fields, the Laboratoire National Henri Becquerel (LNHB) suggests an innovative approach.
