textMultiple aspects of cellulose biosynthesis in cyanobacteria were investigated: product identification and characterization; function, sequence and phylogenetic analyses of the cellulose synthases; suitability of cyanobacteria for transgenic cellulose synthase expression; and improved tools for the detection and identification of product.
