Designing Navigation for Web Interfaces

International audienceThis paper describes design aspects interactive applica-tions for the Web. In this short paper, the emphasis isput upon navigation while other aspects such as struc-ture and visual presentation are dealt with in a marginalway. We propose an extension of the Statecharts formal-ism, called StateWebCharts that supports, in an inte-grated way, these three critical aspects usually dealt within a separated and thus potentially inconsistent manner.We discuss common problems with Web design and howthey can be solved using StateWebCharts. We also de-scribe how the modeling using StateWebCharts could beuseful to improve the user interface design
