The current reform movement in education has two forces that appear contradictory in nature. The first is an emphasis on rigor and accountability that is assessed through high-stakes testing. The second is the recommendation to have student-centered approaches to teaching and learning, especially those that emphasize inquiry methodology and constructivist pedagogy.
