The French national radioactive waste management agency (Andra) is evaluating the feasibility of deep geological disposal for radioactive waste: the Cigéo project. In this context, Andra aims at strengthening the knowledge on diffusive transport of uranium in the Callovo-Oxfordian clay rock (Cox). The stakes are to quantify the retention of uranium and to describe the underlying microscopic mechanisms (adsorption, precipitation), as well as the sensitivity of these parameters to physico-chemical conditions. In the studied scenario, the diffusion of uranium in the near field of the repository is driven by the adsorption phenomena of U(VI).
